Robin Zander of Cheap Trick was brought to tears during Carlsbad High School choir's performance of "Voices" before their concert in San Diego with Foreigner on August 29th.
Carlsbad High School was one of five choirs competing for a financial grant from the Grammy Foundation in a contest hosted by legendary Classic Rock 101.5 KGB before the Foreigner / Cheap Trick concert at Sleep Train Amphitheatre.
As the choir was wrapping up thier pre-competition soundcheck of the song "Voices," one of Cheap Trick's roadies came up to the choir director Jessie Bullock and asked the group to stick around. He ran off and came back with none other Robin Zander who asked them to perform the song for the whole band backstage.
Their amazing performance brought Robin to tears and the rest of the band thoroughly enjoyed it. Rick Nielsen signed guitar picks for all of the kids and told them how amazing they were. Rick also dedicated their concert performance of "Voices" to the Carlsbad High School choir and told the audience "they perform this song better than we do"!
Needless to say it was an epic night for this group of teenagers, who were quoted as saying "This is the BEST first day of school EVER!"
