Two California Highway Patrol officers are being called heroes after they came up with an unconventional way of stopping a wrong-way driver on Interstate 10 Thursday: They crashed into him head-on.

The incident happened just after 2 a.m., when the officers responded to reports of a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the busy interstate through Los Angeles. Although they set up a traffic break in hopes of stopping him, the man continued driving, according to the CHP. That's when the officers intentionally drove head-on into the vehicle in an effort to prevent other motorists from being hurt, a spokesman says.

The officers received minor injuries, while the wrong-way driver was unresponsive but had a pulse, the CHP reports. All three were taken to a local hospital. There's no word yet on charges.

Would the cops be heroes if the wrong-way driver had been killed?
