It was a magical time on this date back in 1984 when the Padres beat the Cubs to earn their way to the World Series to take on the Detroit Tigers. Playing the Cubs in the NLCS was magical. The homerun by Garvey lit up the stadium. They did lose the World Series to the Tigers 4 games to 1, but if you were in San Diego in 1984, that Padres season was legendary.
