Former NHL Great Ed Belfour Arrested on Mischief, Intoxication Charges

Hockey Hall of Famer Ed Belfour has been arrested after going on a drunken spree in Kentucky.

The incident occurred Tuesday inside the Kentucky Grand Hotel and Spa, according to the Bowling Green Police Department. Hotel workers say the 54-year-old Belfour, who'd been drinking, attempted to assault an employee before he ripped a curtain rod out of a lobby wall and broke a window. When police arrived, they found the ex-NHL goalie repeatedly kicking the door to the hotel spa, still clutching the curtain rod, his arrest report indicates. "He could barely stand up, and he had the strong odor of alcohol on his breath," per the report, which also notes Belfour had "bloodshot eyes" and "slow, slurred speech."

The incident didn't mark Belfour's first confrontation with authorities. When he was playing for the Panthers in 2007, Belfour and teammate Ville Peltonsen were arrested after assaulting a police officer in a Miami nightclub. Seven years earlier, when he was with the Stars, Belfour was taken into custody after he attacked a security guard at a posh hotel.
