What are the odds? You're out enjoying a day on the water, paddling along in your kayak, when you're suddenly slapped by an octopus tentacle! The strangest part? The octopus didn't slap you, a seal used the octopus to slap you.
Yes, that just happened off the coast of New Zealand when Kyle Mulinder was paddling around the coast of Kaikōura in the South Island. Mulinder and his friends has been watching a seal struggle with a large octopus in the water while they were kayaking just before the seal jumped out of the water with the octopus caught between its jaws.
“We were just sitting out in the middle of the ocean and then this huge male seal appeared with an octopus and he was thrashing him about for ages,” Mulinder told reporters. “I was like ‘mate, what just happened?’ It was weird because it happened so fast but I could feel all the hard parts of the octopus on my face.” Read more in this article by the New Zealand The Guardian.
