Foreigner & San Diego High School Choirs Perform

Five San Diego high schools practiced all summer for the chance to perform with Foreigner and receive a grant courtesy of the Grammy Foundation!

For the band's 40th Anniversary Tour, FOREIGNER -- Mick Jones (lead guitar, vocals), Kelly Hansen (lead vocals), Jeff Pilson (bass, vocals), Tom Gimbel (rhythm guitar, sax, flute, vocals), Michael Bluestein (keyboards, vocals), Bruce Watson (guitar, vocals) and Chris Frazier (drums) - held a contest in San Diego, CA that gave area high school choirs the chance to perform on-stage with the band and receive a financial grant courtesy of the GRAMMY Foundation.

FOREIGNER partnered with legendary Classic Rock station 101.5 KGB-FM in San Diego by hosting an online competition in which ten area high school choirs are competed.  Each of the participating schools submitted a video of their choir performing a classic rock song a capella.  Participating schools included: Bonita Vista High School; Carlsbad High School; Mira Mesa High School; Oceanside High School; Olympian High School; Otay Ranch High School; Point Loma High School; Rancho Bernardo High School; Scripps Ranch High School; and West Hills High School.

On May 16, 2017, the public was invited to vote for their favorite school performance at 101kgb.com to help determine which schools deserved to be finalists. The top five finalists were invited to attend the FOREIGNER 40th Anniversary Tour with Cheap Trick concert at Mattress Firm Amphitheatre on August 29, 2017, where the choirs performed on stage.  A panel of judges, including members of the GRAMMY Foundation, KGB-FM personalities and music columnists, selected Rancho Bernardo High School as the first place winner.  The school‘s music program receivied a $2,500 grant from the Grammy Foundation and performed "I Want To Know What Love Is“ on stage with FOREIGNER during the concert.  In addition, each of the four runner-up choirs will received $500. Financial contributions are being made courtesy of the GRAMMY Foundation.

We were blown away!
