San Diego Blood Bank accepting blood donations for El Paso and Dayton

SAN DIEGO BLOOD BANK ACCEPTING BLOOD DONATIONS IN HONOR OF VICTIMS OF EL PASO AND DAYTON SHOOTINGS

SAN DIEGO (August 5, 2019) – In response to phone calls from the public about the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio this weekend, the San Diego Blood Bank is offering the community an opportunity to donate blood in honor of those whose lives have been impacted by the shootings.

Twenty people were killed and twenty-six were wounded in a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso on Saturday. The following day, another nine people were killed and twenty-seven others wounded in a shooting in the Oregon District of Dayton Ohio.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and their families,” said David Wellis, Ph.D., CEO of San Diego Blood Bank. “We stand ready to send blood to the affected areas if needed.”

Requests for blood have not yet been sent to San Diego Blood Bank. However, blood supplies are currently low across the country. Those who donate this week will help ensure a safe blood supply is available when needed.

To donate in support of those impacted by the shootings, schedule an appointment at SanDiegoBloodBank.org/Donate.
