The iconic lion sculptures that sit outside the New York Public Library have undergone a change -- and it has nothing to do with vandals.

New York Public Library Adorns Lion Statues With Face Masks

The pair of marble jungle cats have been fitted with giant protective masks to remind New Yorkers to protect themselves from the coronavirus when venturing out of their homes, according to the library.

The sculptures, which are named Patience and Fortitude, have adorned the steps leading up to Manhattan's Stephen A. Schwarzman building for 109 years.
