NJ Starbucks Worker Arrested for Spitting in Cops' Coffee

A New Jersey Starbucks employee is behind bars after he reportedly spit into coffee he served to police officers.

Westwood resident Kevin Trejo, 21, was taken into custody Monday in connection with the crime, which may have occurred on more than one occasion, according to Park Ridge Police Chief Joseph Madden. "We believe it happened more than once but we can prove it happened at least once on May 25th," Madden says.

While police haven't revealed how they were able to determine Trejo was guilty, Captain Joseph Rampolla says the investigation was launched after the department received a tip. "That was enough for our detective bureau to get concerned, especially during the coronavirus pandemic," Rampolla says. Trejo is facing charges of subjecting a law enforcement officer to contact with bodily fluid; tampering with a cup of coffee knowing it was purchased by a law enforcement officer; and creating a hazardous environment.
