Jim McInnes first hit the San Diego airwaves in the summer of 1973 when he joined the staff of the original 106.5 KPRI.On April 30 of 1974, KGB called Jim with an offer to become the new morning show host. He accepted and began his run at KGB on the very next day, May 1, 1974.Jim soon adopted his initials, J.M., as his easier-to-remember handle.After a few months in the morning drive-time slot, McInnes was moved to the afternoon drive-time position, where he remained for about 14 of the next 28 years. (The other 14 years were spent as KGBs midday host.)J.M. was with KGB when the Skyshow was developed and was co-producer of many of the stations iconic Homegrown albums. He also hosted the Homegrown Show, a weekly broadcast that focused entirely on San Diego-area musicians.McInnes was let go by a previous KGB administration in October of 2002 and was hired by the now-defunct KPLN to be their afternoon drive-time personality. When that gig ended because of a format change, J.M. became a news anchor on talk-radio.Jim also has his own weekly show on San Diego City Colleges public radio station KSDS, Jazz 88.3.J.M. wrote a monthly column for 8 years in The San Diego Troubadour and is a guitar player with the rock-swing-boogie-woogie and blues band, The Shenanigans.I missed being on KGB, so I started putting out feelers to see if there was any interest, he says. There was and now hes BACK!I couldnt be happier! I am thrilled to be back with one of best Classic Rock stations in the U.S.!
