'Sopranos' Creator Accidentally Reveals What Happened To Tony In Finale

It was the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers — The Sopranos 2007 series finale.

Tony Soprano's fate was left unknown as the series ended with him sitting in a diner as a rival hitman approached him and the screen faded to black, leaving fans wondering if Tony was spared or he was killed.

However, after 13 long years of debate — fans and even the Sopranos stars themselves have never been able to agree on what they believed happened to Tony — the show's creator David Chase accidentally revealed what fans have been dying to know since their screens turned black.

In a recent roundtable discussion, co-author Alan Sepinwall asked David, “When you said there was an end point, you don’t mean Tony at Holsten’s [the diner], you just meant, ‘I think I have two more years’ worth of stories left in me.’”

David then replied, “Yes, I think I had that death scene around two years before the end … But we didn’t do that.”

Realizing his epic mistake, co-author Matt Zoller Seitz chimed in, “You realize, of course, that you just referred to that as a death scene,” to which David replied: “F**k you guys.”

As fans know, production is currently underway on the highly-anticipated Sopranos prequel, “The Many Saints of Newark,” which is slated to be released on March 12, 2021. The upcoming series will reportedly show Tony's early years.
