Join us for An EVEning with Elephants on November 2, 2019 5-7:30pm to learn about the endangered Asian elephant, and people who live alongside them!
This event will feature:
- 1-hour documentary film, Elephant Island, about Asian elephants, produced by the BBC.
- Interactive Q & A with research scientist Dr. Shermin de Silva.Dr. Shermin de Silva is the director of the Udawalawe Elephant Research Project, a unique long-term research project based in Sri Lanka, and also the founder of Trunks & Leaves Inc., a conservation nonprofit dedicated to this species and its habitat.
- Bharatanatyam performance, "Tale of the Tuskers," choreographed and performed by Sukanya Kumar. Sukanya Kumar, disciple of Smt. Priyadarsini Govind, is a local classical dancer. She has trained earlier under the Gurus of Sri Rajarajeswari Bharatanatya Kala Mandir, Mumbai.
- Silent auction featuring fine art photography, paintings, and gift certificates with a total value of over $1500. All proceeds from the event will benefit field programs focused on supporting communities in Sri Lanka that live with elephants.
