San Diego Restaurants See Bigger Surge Of Customers Than Any Other US City

San Diego restaurants are seeing the biggest surge of customers nationwide, reports NBC7.

Now that COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted, many diners have been enthusiastic to return to their favorite restaurants, bars, and breweries.

And according to Zenreach, a market research group that collects data on shopping trends, San Diegans are returning to restaurants and other businesses at high rates.

"San Diego's at about 136% increase [in foot traffic] since January 1st, which is phenomenal," Megan Wintersteen, VP of Marketing at Zenreach, told NBC7.

San Diego's increase surpasses other major cities like Los Angles, San Jose, Denver, and Chicago.

According to Wintersteen, there's been an increase of 41% in people visiting stores across the nation.

"Seeing that momentum pick up through this year we think it is indicative and reflective of consumer optimism," said Wintersteen.

Zenreach's data also shows that people are eating at local restaurants 11% more than they are at larger chain restaurants.

"A lot of businesses started to reopen so more people were coming to the downtown area," Oleg Prokofiev of Testo Pepesto told NBC7. "I feel like it's maybe another two, three months and it's either going to be like it was before, or almost the same, or even better."
