A small plane from a skydiving company crashed in Oceanside on Thursday afternoon (February 24), according to FOX5. An airport spokesperson confirmed to the outlet that the plane belonged to the skydiving company GoJump.
The plane, a Cessna Caravan, went down near the runway around 12:50 P.M., according to an employee at the Oceanside Municipal Airport. Two men were aboard the plane when it crashed and the Oceanside Police Department said they were taken to the hospital for treatment.
One of the men was listed in critical condition and was rushed to the hospital by air ambulance. The other man was taken by ground ambulance and was reported to be in "moderate" condition, according to a news release from police.
The airport spokesperson said the pilot was returning from a trip at the time of the crash. According to FOX5, the Cessna came to a rest on its nose with its tail sticking up in the air and the propeller on the front was destroyed.
It was not initially evident what caused the plane to go down. Police said the Federal Aviation Administration responded to the scene of the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board will also investigate the circumstances of the crash. However, FOX5 reports it can take up to two years for the agency to release the final report on accidents to the public.
