Are You Getting Rid of Used Batteries the Right Way?

SAN DIEGO - If you're throwing your used batteries into the trash can, then you're not disposing of them the right way. Here's how to take care of that.

Bring them to the battery drop-off bins located inside the 14 library branches listed below. The libraries primarily collect standard alkaline batteries — Cs, Ds, AAs, AAAs, 9-volts, you name it. But they can also take rechargeable batteries; lithium batteries must be bagged separately.

While the EPA says most communities can throw batteries in the trash, California considers batteries to be hazardous waste, which must be disposed of at a proper facility.

Contact the County of San Diego recycling website for more information.
