San Diego Couple’s Humorous Fundraising Effort To Fix Home

In December 2017, Charles and Kelsey Eck came home to their entire house flooded with sewage water due to a blockage in the City Water Main.

This rendered their house uninhabitable and they have been displaced since then. Initially, they thought their homeowner's insurance would take care of the damage, but they denied them coverage right before Christmas. Then they were denied coverage by the City of San Diego, so they are now in litigation with the city. Since the disaster, their days and nights have consisted of endless phone calls, meetings, waves of bad news, shimmers of hope, only to keep receiving rejections and bad news. With zero coverage to this day, they have depleted their savings accounts just to demo and treat their house for the bacteria (floors, walls, bathroom, and kitchen have been removed) and now they are moving into the remodel phases of the house estimated to be between $50-100,000 of damage. While they continue to fight against the city, we hope this fundraising event will help to alleviate some of their financial burden to fix their home and replace their belongings that were damaged.
