Scientists Remove Murder Hornets from Washington Nest [VIDEO]

Scientists in Washington state have removed 98 murder hornets from a nest discovered last week near the Canadian border.

Dressed in heavy-duty beekeeper's outfits, entomologists used a vacuum device to extract the Asian giant hornets from the nest, the state's Department of Agriculture reports. "The eradication went very smoothly,'' says managing entomologist Sven Spichiger.

The smooth eradication doesn't mean the country's out of danger, however. Spichiger says entomologists suspect there are several more nests in the area and a search is underway to find them. "This is only the start of our work to hopefully prevent the Asian giant hornet from gaining a foothold in the Pacific Northwest," he says.
