A Maryland resident has escaped with only minor injuries after ignoring warning signs and driving right into a two-lane wide sinkhole on Wednesday, authorities say.
The sinkhole was so deep, the unidentified man's entire Cadillac disappeared from sight, according to rescue crews.
The sink hole opened earlier in the day after a water main ruptured, authorities say. Although crews had expected to finish repairing the main on Wednesday, the incident has set them back by a day, according to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. The commission is now asking residents to "follow traffic directions and respect the work zone."
