Get ready to pay more in the city of San Diego for such things as swimming at a city pool or reserving a volleyball court or for having a boat on Mission Bay.
With the City Council this week approving increases in city fees that are said to average some 20-percent, it will also cost more if you’re ticketed for a parking violation.
And with council members also voting to start raising fees once every year instead of once every three years, the cost of these increased fees apparently will continue to go up.
There is no secret why the city council voted to raise fees, some of which certainly have not been raised for a long time, but the city is facing a budget deficit of more than 250-million dollars, and the council and the Mayor say they have to do something to reduce the size of that large red budget hole.
What makes the news about the increase in city fees harder to take is that it comes at the same time as egg and beef prices are going up and gas prices are still at high levels, there now are fears of higher prices possible with the tariffs on Mexico and Canada, and having to pay more for a lot of things, including ranging from avocadoes to autos.
So it looks like families may have to make some budget decisions as well…due to the higher prices we have to pay. Or hope to get a lucky lottery ticket.
