Trash Fee Settlement Reached

A settlement has been reached for a lawsuit against the city's trash fee for single family homes.

More than a dozen homeowners accused the city of charging more than what it actually costs to collect trash.

The plaintiffs claim the city violated proposition 218, a 30-year-old state ballot measure that prohibits government agencies from charging more for services than the actual cost.

There is a closed session by the city council today. If the agreement is approved, a trial set to start Tuesday would no longer move forward.

In 2022, voters were told trash assessments would be between 23 and 29 dollars per month. But the fee was 43 to 50-dollars per month.
